Hi everybody.
I need some advice on wrinkled decals. I am currently building (amongst others) Gigi Galli's 307 WRC car. I'm using the decals from Renaissance. And I must admit that they're amazing. They go down very well and react superbly to Micro Sol and Set. But there are several decals that go around complex curves and shapes and although they did lay down very well, they sadly show some wrinkles. ![]() Even several applications of Sol didn't help to solve this problem. I even made tiny cuts in the wrinkles to help get the Sol into every nook and cranny, but no results. Below some pictures of the wrinkles. ![]() ![]() My questions: First: Is this "normal"? Or maybe a better question would be, could I've prevented this? And if yes, how can I prevent this from happening in the future? Does anybody have some tips regarding this? Second: How can I repair this? If it's possible to repair at all... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Gigi Galli 307 WRC wrinkled decals
Firstly I would try pricking along the wrinkle with a pin at regular intervals and re-applying the Micro Sol to the length of the wrinkle.See if this helps. If not then I would try some Mr Mark Softer using the same method.I have used this before and it has worked where the Micro Sol has failed. In my opinion the Mr Mark Softer is stronger than the Micro Sol.If both these fail you can try dipping a cloth in hot water (very hot but not boiling) and using this to iron out the wrinkle.Place the hot cloth on the wrinkle for a couple of seconds and remove to see if it has had any effect.Try not to rub at the decal though using this method as it can lift it.Lastly if all else fails you can use the heat from a hairdryer and a dry, soft cloth to press the decal down.Warm up the area with the hairdryer VERY carefully so as not to melt the plastic and press the decal down with the cloth, again don't rub it,press it.If you don't get it on the first attempt then you can try again but let the plastic cool in between.Hope this helps your problems.
