towing

ok so I am getting ready to move from Montana to Oklahoma in may. my question is I have an 07 Corolla that I want to tow down there with my 97 chevy 1500 with a 5.7L and 3.73 gears. Would it be better to tow it with a car dolly or with a car trailer?

Re: towing

It would be your choice.. either way will not affect the truck. A dolly will cause uneven wear and tear on the tires for your corolla.
I would prefer the car trailer, but I know the dollies are cheaper.

Re: towing

So my truck should not have any problems pulling a trailer with a car on it?

Re: towing

I don't think you should have any problems. I mean unless you have not kept up with the maintenance on your truck. But it in general you should not have a problem. Just take it easy over the mountains

Re: towing

U-Haul claims there is 1,350 lbs difference between a dolly and a trailer. That's a lot.
The trailer needs a class 3 hitch, the dolly class 2.
The trailer comes with surge brakes.

Re: towing

I picked up a compact in Cleveland with a car trailer and drove to Chicago - No problem. My truck is a 95 Tahoe 5.7 with +180K miles.
Suggest you avoid using overdrive (D) when towing and just take it easy

Re: towing

I had 1993 Silverado that had over 100K. I drove it from Chicago to Virginia, Picked up a 87' S-Blazer on a full car trailer and drove it to Colorado.
That 5.7L didn't even flintch.

Re: towing

I just towed over 500 miles pulling a travel trailer in the 7000lb range. Some places there were some goood sized hills. I had no problems at all.
I have the 5.3L Z71 with hd towing package.
