Question for Saturn Master Tech!!!!
I recently found that a transmission for a 1997 SL1 and a 1997 SL2 wont pair together electronically because of the gear ratios and they way the PCM is trying to read them. My question, and this one is very technical, I have an extensive background in electronics, in theory, if i isolated the transmission control on a PCM off of a 1997 SL1 and switch it with with the transmision control portion of the PCM from the SL2, would that might work, I know there are more straight foward ways to fix my problem, but i have opened both PCM's and they look very similar, all I want to know is, is it possible, and please if your going to judge dont post anything, just be serious.

Re: Question for Saturn Master Tech!!!!
There are no saturn techs that are going down to board level to troubleshoot a system. Saturn elegently designed the PCM to be non-serviceable.
Your best bet is to put the PCM from the donor car into the other car. Crap, then your engine will have the wrong PCM. Unfortunately, it may be all programmed into the same flash chip for the engine and tranny. Can you swap gears over to your new tranny, assuming that you blew up your case from the diff pin? |

Re: Question for Saturn Master Tech!!!!
nice guess, yes the pin went and i must admit, i was traveling rather fast and it didn't leave much to salvage, i wasn't suggesting that i was going to take the PCM some place but i was going to do it myself, but i saw you said flash, can the pcm be flashed by some one to match the engine and transmission.

Re: Question for Saturn Master Tech!!!!
Oooh, I have a great answer.
Maybe... Sorry. I know that saturn dealers can change the flash for some things. However, I don't know what the limitations are on their system. IE if they say you have a DOHC, their computer might automatically assume tranny and engine. But, they may be able to select them indivually, but I think your chances are less than 50/50. Worth a shot though... Al |
