3vz-fe engine coolant leak ner firewall

So guys, rather than giving advice here, I need some.

It looks like I have a slow coolant leak on my wife's '93 V6 camry at the rear of the engine (ie. firewall side actually). I'm getting a few drops on the garage floor of what appears to be the rear toward the passenger side. I'm going to try to have a closer look at it with a mirror tommorow, but it sounds like it may be a dreaded freeze plug leak. I'll have a closer look at the U shaped bypass hose over near the TB area just to be sure. If it is the freeze plug, is there anything that can be done to fix this in-place without pulling the engine? I assume not. Is there anything else back there besides the head gasket that can leak?

thanks

dave mc

Maybe one of those rubber freeze plugs that you push in and then tighten the bolt? I don't even know if they still sell those things. I have used them years ago on an old ford truck I had and never had any problems with them. The only ploblem you might have is getting the old freeze plug out.

Maybe you can get at the freeze plug from underneath the car without removing the engine.

Re: 3vz-fe engine coolant leak ner firewall

I think 2000izusu may be the winner. MAYBE. It appears as though the heater bypass valve under the TB has been leaking. There is encrusted coolant around both the inlet and outlet hoses to it. It seems unusual that both sides would leak. Maybe there is some blockage in the valve. Probably best to replace it. Now I say MAYBE that is the only leak because the drips appear to be coming from closer to the passenger side of the engine, at least 18" from this valve. Who knows how it drips down off this valve though with all the stuff in the way below. I've fixed so many problems with this cooling system I'm getting weary. It could also still easily be a weeping water pump too as mentioned. I just don't trust this system anymore.

Oh ya, and I tried to inspect the back of the block down there with a mirror and light. That is not easy. I think I saw the 1 freeze plug closest to the passenger side but that is it. I'm not sure if the exhaust manifold is in the way of the others or not.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes.
