nsx vs sti, sti vs supra, nsx vs evo 9 (with video!)

yup, I had alot of races going on this weekend. But since i'm too lazy to type, it took me a while to get off my lazy ass to tell the story.

My friend just got his STi tuned to 380whp and he wants to see how much faster his cars gotten. My friend with the his BPU + supra says hes down and I say i'm down. I'm always curious to see how my car would do against them.

I'm not racing to win, I'm racing to see if I can keep up. Since i'm at a huge hp disadvantage ( around 120whp ) they agree to race under my terms. My terms are that I race in my 2 strongest gears. 2nd and 3rd from 60mph-130mph.

1st race- STi vs Supra BPU + running 18psi and true twin setup.

they start at 40mph and the STi takes the jump, the supra's lag at that rpm kills it. so 3rd and 4th the STi jumps atleast 2 cars. Finally in 5th the Supra gains enough momentum to stop the STi's pull and they shut down at 140mph.

they race again from 60mph this time. The Supra is closer to its powerband now, and the jump from the STi is not as big. Again in 5th the supra stops the pull, they both shut down at 140mph with the STi being 3 cars ahead.

2nd race- NSX vs STi

We start at around 60mph. I'm in 2nd the STi is in third. We both go, I get the jump because thats when my v-tec starts in 2nd. I see the STi about to pass me, he falls back when he has to shift, than he pulls up next to me again, he falls back again because he has to shift into 5th now. I shift into 3rd and finally the STi pulls hard on me after 100mph. by my 130mph the STi is doing 140mph and around 5-6 cars ahead of me.

We repeat a few times and same results. The car can basically hold off the STi till 100mph and thats when the real hp difference comes in. But the STi's tune is not perfect. whenever he shifts fast, the car stumbles ( which explains why he would fall behind after every shift )

3rd race- NSX vs EVO 9 with stock boost and light bolt ons.

We start again at 60mph. I stay in 2nd, and the EVO 9 is in 3rd. On the 3rd honk we both went. We were neck and neck until he had to shift. Every shift he fell behind a 1/4 car to half a car. so when i'm in 3rd hes in 5th. I come out ahead by 1 or so cars.

not bad, this car is safely say is faster than my 300+ whp 240sx. This car suits my driving style perfectly. very very happy with this car. I will post again when I put on my headers and race my friends E46 M3.

Cliff notes:

supra races STi from 40-140 and 60-140. the STi wins by 3 cars.

NSX races STi from 60-130mph. I held off the STi till 100mph than it got ugly and lost by 5-6 cars afterwards

NSX races EVO9, 60-130mph. basically neck to neck until he had to keep on shifting. I won by 1 car.

Nice races. All very nice cars. Try taking them around a road course.

yeah i'll be slap jack. and Cassie'sman, my friend has a intake, a chip, and a mid pipe that eliminates the rasping sound. Hes going to get an exhaust soon. He tells me that the the usually with all those mods the car will gain a whooping 10whp.

I have headers sitting on my floor. I'm going to put them in next week. Hopefully i'll be putting down close to 270whp which is very close to what a stock E46 M3 puts down.

Re: nsx vs sti, sti vs supra, nsx vs evo 9.

I love these kind of threads! It doesn't seem so long ago that my little league coach, who was a labor attorney, pulled into one of our practices with a brand spanking new silver Acura NSX. At the time it was one of only 5 or 6 in the Bay Area. Man it was so cool looking. They still are. Not many car designs can truly be called "timeless", but the NSX is one of them. It's good to see REAL car guys can enjoy them now, rather than just poseur executive types.

BTW...based on your run against the Evo IX, I'd say you'll do pretty well against the E46 M3.

Not that I'm doubting you, but he goes through 2 gears while you go through one?

Re: nsx vs sti, sti vs supra, nsx vs evo 9.

The NSX has stupidly long gearing. Honda originally developed it to have only one gear.

But studies showed that people, although like the speed of one gear still wanted multiples.

True story... sorta.

Dude with races like those, you need to invest in a mounted camera.

Ultimate sex.

Ironic, seeing that the S2K has obscenely short gears.
