Re: Engine swap

No it cant be done. It would take way to much work and a lot of money to do. And you really wouldn't be much faster.

Re: Engine swap

Just re-build yours with some forged internals and slap on a turbo. BAM! Insta-power...(Well, after the lag).

Re: Engine swap

Picture may not be authentic but I found this in a thread awhile back. Take from it what you want, but the motor is from a 2000+ Eclipse and it's a V6.

Re: Engine swap

I guess the question would be, why the hell would you do that?

Re: Engine swap

That's got to be the biggest waste of time and money I've ever seen...you don't even net that much more hp. They probably did it for bragging rights.

Re: Engine swap

No thermostat housing cap...wiring looks horrible. Wondering if someone just took out their blown motor and lowered in the 6 banger that they just by chance had laying about and made eveything look lined up..just a shot in the dark though...not to mention the battery isn't even hooked up...

Re: Engine swap

Well thanks for all the input, sometime down the road i need a different engine. I'm looking for a way to put a big engine in without a lot of work if anyone has any idea as to doing that i'd sure like to hear what you have to say.

Re: Engine swap

There is no easy/cheap drop in V6 (or bigger I4 for that matter) for our cars. I dont know what one of those 3g V6's cost, but you would need the entire drivetrain, wiring harness, ECU, etc. By the time you got all that you would be pretty deep in it. Then comes the install labor, unless your have someone that can do it. Even still, its not going to be an afternoon or even a weekend project unless they have a pretty good idea of whats going on. What about when it gets in? That is going to mess up your weight distibution and whack out your handling, remember that suspension is set up for a 4 banger. Trust me, its not worth the time. If your motor is going out and you want a V6 that bad, just sell the one you have and get a 2000+ Eclipse.

Re: Engine swap

Alot of people are dropping a 2.4 into the n/t eclipse. Its still a good bit of work but I dont think its that bad compared to other projects.

Re: Engine swap

Don't bother trying to swap a V6 in, just rebuild your motor and turbo it. Cheaper and easier...and you can get some decent power out of it if done right.

This would be essentially be the same as swapping the 2.0 turbo motor in there. Being that they basicly are the same block with a different head.

Re: Engine swap

Apparently its not, I dont know what block they use but from what I have read about it only 1 motor mount has to be changed. There is also alot of fabrication involved but not near as hard as a 4g63. Check it out on 2gnt
