Quit Exhuast
I will be installing a new exhuast soon and I am concerned about the noise level. I will have custom 2.25 piping going to a OBX twin mufflers from the Cat Back. If the noise level is louder then I want would it be possible to install a glass pack between the Cat and the muffler to lower the soon level or would the glass pack increase the loudlenss.

The glass pack would definitely baffle the sound levels.
I had an NX2000 w/out resonator and a custom 2" cat-back piping to a rear Borla muffler. Loud and obnoxious! My '96 G20 has 2.25" cat-back piping with a Borla and the Thrush glasspack. It is very pleasant to drive. Only a little louder than I wanted when WOT. I used a Thrush Glasspack. The canister is 20" long and the overall length is 25" long. Perfect length for the G20. I had the shop weld flanges on both ends of the glasspack so that if any future rust or corrosion is present, I can remove the glasspack, go buy another for $15 and replace it. The glasspack bolts right up to the cat, then the other side is flanged to the remaining piping that goes to the muffler. I also had a flange welded where the rear stock flange used to be so I can put the stock rear section on if I ever wanted to. Probably will never do that, but who knows. Simple as that! Can't go wrong for $15.

Hi I olso have a 2.25 cat back (mandrel bent) ,but Im thinking to put the maxima muffler (skyline muffler) ,becuse this muffler seems to be very quiet and is made for a car that put 230 hp so it will be less restricted than the stock muffler ,(no noise).

So based on Brandon reply, should I just go head and add a glasspack for the start or should I take my chances and hope that the new exhuast is not too load?
Brandon what to you suggest? Juan 91 G20 Header, intake, 9.2 mm wires, Polished valve cover, 17" AXIS NE-O's Custom exhuast coming soon:smoka: |

My personal opinion is to put the glass pack in with the OBX. I drove the NX2000 without a resonator for over 6 years and it starts to get real annoying. I also tried it for about 6 months with no cat. Bad idea! Then again, my G20 also is my family car so I did as much research on the noise levels as I could before deciding on the glasspack. I was very pleased with the sound. It is very deep and low and does not sound like a bumble bee in flight. That's my opinion. Go with the glass pack! By the way, what type of header did you go with? Contemplating that as my next performance upgrade!
