Change Oil Sensor Reset

Hey guys,

I am having trouble resetting the change oil sensor on my '00 GP GT. I read the manual and it says with the key in the run position, but the car off, to press the accelerator down three times within five seconds and then the sensor light should flash signifying it has been reset. I've tried this several times and nothing...I know my oil is fine since I just changed it. I'm not sure if the fact that my key always gets stuck in the steering column and I remove it with the emergency release from underneath the wheel has anything to do with this...thanks in advance.

Re: Change Oil Sensor Reset

The steps above to reset the change oil soon if you do not have the enhanced DIC with trip computer are correct. However, it is possible the ignition switch is affecting the reset capability. But make sure you are in the RUN position.

For DICs with trip computer you select the MODE button and then RESET at the DIC.

Re: Change Oil Sensor Reset

Is the RUN position the point at which you see all the lights lit up on the dashboard? Thanks.

Re: Change Oil Sensor Reset

That is correct. It is the position right before START. Where the key returns to after starting but don't take it to start. If you have an owner's manual the key positions are described in Chapter 2. Or when you first insert key into the ignition switch the second click over.

Re: Change Oil Sensor Reset

Thanks, that's what I thought and did, but I think the fact that my key doesn't come out normally is related to me not being able to reset the oil sensor.

Re: Change Oil Sensor Reset

I agree. Most likely your problem. I reset mine on the DIC since I have the enhanced with trip computer but have the same reset on my wife's '99 Regal. Recently changed the oil and it works like a champ. Of course, there is nothing wrong with her ignition switch either.
