Question about 1994 4WD

Hi all, new here. I recently aquired a 1994 SLE 4 Door Jimmy with 4WD. There is no transfer case lever on the floor. Only a rocker switch on the left side of the dash labeled Hi and Lo. Does this mean that this is a full time 4WD? If not how do I disengage the 4WD? I searched the forums but came up empty.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Denny

Welcome to AF.
What transfer case do you have.
The ID/transfwer case no. is on rear of transfer case.
Are you sure there is only 1 rocker switch?
Or only two indicator lights on the dash?
Or the built together.?

Re: Question about 1994 4WD

If in 4W high and the light is on for 4W high.
Push the 4W high button again and it should shift back into 2W wheel drive and the indicator light should go out.

You can test for 4W in or out by making a sharp turn/circle.

When you feel the crow hop or bind up on a turn it is in 4W.
If not you are in 2W drive.

Also a word of caution.
Do not drive it on dry payment in 4W drive.

Re: Question about 1994 4WD

Thanks MT-2500!!!

I would never have guessed to push the 4WD Hi button twice. I now see how it operates. My 4WD is working properly. Now it's on to replacing the brake lines and curing a "running rich" engine problem. For the rich problem, I'm thinking the O2 sensor. Anyone care to weigh in on this one???

Thanks a lot everyone. You've all been a great help so far.

Re: Question about 1994 4WD

You are welcome.
That one is a little different.

You need some proper testing before throwing parts at it.
What engine and engine code?
Any check engine lights?
Are you getting black exhaust?
Any gas smell?
