Angry Water leak !!! 93 APV

The source of this water leak has eluded me for years. Sometimes it leaks when it rains and sometimes it doesn't.... Sometimes it is small when it rains hard or big when it rains just a little.... I have had as much as 3 inches of water in both driver and passenger floor board area. Other times not as much.... There is NO Ainti-freeze with the water.... Several times I removed the water and dried the carpet with heaters and hair dryers..... Afterwards, I have used a water hose and directed the water to specific areas of the windshield and on the top back to the main roof and let the water run for at least a half hour... THERE IS NO LEAK FROM ABOVE !!!....
NO DRIPS WHATSOEVER !!! .... ... Once the carpet is dry and another rain comes, the carpet on the drivers side in the area where my left foot usually rests flat and up against the hump just under the door, begins to get wet.....
The water seeps or runs in from some place else..... THE CARPET AREA AROUND THE WET SPOT IS COMPLETELY DRY !!!.... STILL NO DRIPS..... Today I went under the car and noticed that the floorboard has a panel roughly 12 inches square that covers and is riveted to a like size opening in the floorboard. This opening straddles the frame member and appears to have no function. Removing it would give access to nothing. So I'm asking myself, "Could the water be seeping in from below ?" .... Nah I said, "Water doesn't flow up hill", but I sealed the panel off anyway with rtv...... Is this story getting boring ?....It sure is to me.... Anyone else had this situation ?
Thanks for reading....../gene

Does your van sit on a flat surface? Also have you tried drilling a hole were the water sits in the floor, my cavy did this in the right rear floor board. I drilled a 11/32 hole in the floor and it doesen't get wet any more it stays dry as a bone no matter how hard it rains and if you seen the news end of last mnth we got 9in of rain in 5 hrs. THATS 3MNTHS OF RAIN IN LESS THAN A 1/4 OF A DAY.

I did all my testing with Van sitting in same place as when I found the water in the floorboard. Did another six hours of drip test today with no results.
I'll do the "hole in the floor thing" after I give up entirely. Thanks.../

That looks like a lot of water..but do you use the a/c? COndensed water from A/C operation happens to drip in the car if the drain is blocked....
NOtice that a/c works when you use the DEF position too.

Do you have a location for that hole? Mine might need to be cleaned off... Don't even know where to start looking.

Frankly I never looked for it...but from the water pool that forms under when A/C works, I suspect the drain hose can be found from under center of firewall.......and cleaned from there.

Re: Water leak !!! 93 APV

I recently bought a low-milage 1996 Chevy Lumina van. After a long wet Chicago winter I recently discovered I had a water leak. LOTS of water was pooling up at the driver-side floor and also the passenger side floor! No leaky windshield; no signs of wetness under dash or at firewall; no sign of wetness through door seals. Finally - after pulling up the entire carpet - I found the source of the leak. A rust hole in the driver-side rear wheel well!

A rust hole formed on the front of the rear wheel well. When the pavement is wet, water is thrown into the van, then runs forward and collects at the low point under the driver's feet. It pools up under the rug is absorbed in the felt pad until saturated, then puddles on top of the rug.

How to fix? Clean, then patch the hole with sheet metal and adhesive.
