Re: (@ Escort 1.9..Can you bypass the fuel cutout switch?

By stuck I am assuming you mean it is stuck in the 'cutoff' position, and wont reset when you press down on the button? (As opposed to a bad fuel pump relay, or bad fuel pump?) Although ours has 'shutoff' unexpectedly & annoyingly a couple of times, I havent tried bypassing it. But I am sure you could bypass the 'switch' by tieing its two 'live' wires together. I didnt find any diagram for the 'inertial switch' wiring in the Ford service manual, so you would have to experiment to find which two wires going to the switch would need to be connected together. The service manual lacking any info on the color/function of the wires to that switch might indicate Ford Really Doesnt Want The Liability of anyone messing with the feature. If you do bypass it, you should probably figure on restoring its operation before you sell it to anyone. For liability reasons.

i played with my inertia switch a bit on my last 1.9.

it seemed to be just a plain old switch. i woudlnt expect youd have any trouble just shorting it out- just pull out the wires and play within with a multimeter for a minute to figure out what connects to what.

it would be an easy bypass, but if you actually wrecked the car, sprayed fuel everywhere, and ignited it.. well... not sure i would want the switch disabled in my car.

better idea would be to pull another switch out of a junkyard escort, or almost as good- have an internet junkyard dissecter do it for you. at least on the wagon it would take five minutes to grab that thing out of a junker.
