02 gti trans problem

02 gti .1.8t. automatic wont shift into 3rd or anything higher.. seems like its in neutral , its fine in cold weather..it was 40's the other morning, i was thinking just bad fluid..but its not that easy to check, it has 64000 miles. any idea?
