What Dizzy should my 1990 HF have.
I have a 1990 CRX HF, all stock getting bad MPG (35-40 MPG is all). 230K miles, uses no oil at all, oil at the full mark from oil change to oil change.
I did a full tune-up and found the timing off. The timing, using a good snap on timing light, is off by 39 degrees advanced. Thinking the timing belt was off a tooth or 2 I took the car to a good Honda Mech and had the timing belt checked and found it to be right on! But the timing mark is off 39 degrees. The timing belt would have to be off 4 teeth (9.44 degrees per tooth) to make a 40 degree diff. I had them replace the belt and all the valve cover seals/gaskets. But the timing mark (the white one on the bottom pulley) is off by 39 degrees. I have just replaced the EGR valve, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, and had the valves adjusted but the timing is still 39 degrees off (advanced). How/what can make the timing so far off? The Honda dude does not know but thinks the pickups or something in the dizzy might have come loss. IN doing my research I have a TD-18U dizzy, but all th info says I should have a TD-01U. Could that be the problem or are the 2 dizzys interchangeable? What about the rotor (wrong one) or? Any ideas TIA Bob

Check this link: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...y5=DISTRIBUTOR
It shows you have the proper dizzy on there. The one you think your supposed to have may be from a different model. Your dizzy might be bad, or installed wrong. Set the engine to top dead center and make sure the rotor is sitting at the number one terminal, wiggle the rotor to see if there is any play, then if all else fails a chilton or helms manual will tell you how to test the dist. You could also hit the wreckers and try to get a cheap used dizzy just to see if that helps the problem. As far as the rotor/cap goes..they have a fairly unique design and the problem hasn't changed, or worsened for you so its likely th right one.

Re: What Dizzy should my 1990 HF have.
The hf should have gotten 50+ reliably...being that it is so old I would assume its lost some of that. But I would imagine 40-45 would be out of the question.

Re: What Dizzy should my 1990 HF have.
I can't remember the part number right off, but it's the same dizz as the 88-91 SI used... in fact, I'm pretty sure that as long as it's a D-series, and it was built for MPFI, (and it bolts to the head correctly) you can use it... there basically, to my knowledge, was only 2 variations of the MPFI diz back then, and one was for the 'teg with the DOHC motor.. which won't fit your car.
