95 Camry smells bad!?

My Camry smells bad when the weather is wet. It also smells bad when the A/C is turned off. Is this due to air conditioning filter? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Is the smell coming from the air ducts or is the interior itself ? Is the carpet wet on the front passenger floor?

There is no A/C filter on your car.

You need to do a better job in describing the smell. Is it musty like mold or mildew? Is it a sweet smell? Is it a rotton egg smell? Does it smell like something is burning? Do you have any idea of where the smell is coming from? It is best to know these things to help pinpoint the source of the smell.

The small comes from the air duct though the inerior does not smell so good either . No, the carpet is not wet.

Thanks, Mike. I think it is like mildew. It is definitely not burning smell. It comes from the air duct.

The evaporator fins act as an air filter, trapping bacteria, spores, and dirt. These airborne particles are normally washed out a drain hole with condensation, but if they remain on a moist evaporator, they may collect and cause an unpleasant odor.

• Avoid parking under trees to reduce the possibility of leaves entering the air intake
• Use the fresh air setting on your climate control rather than the recirculated air setting whenever possible to allow the evaporator to dry out

If the condition already exists, spraying a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water (1 to 5 ratio/mixture) or a disinfectant in the outside air intake may help reduce the smell.

The cost for this kit (Part# 00050-00008) with the applicator hose was $18..Large can of foam (18oz), small can of vent spray (4oz), and the dispenser hose with adapters.

The foam has a faint bleach-ammonia smell. It's typical of a disinfectant. Fortunately, the odor goes away in 48 hours. Then you use the small can of vent spray. It has a clean-new car type of smell. Just pump it through the system and in another 48 hours, the system is clean and refreshed. Buy a can of Lysol, preferably in a scent that you like.
