For anyone interested of course...
Okay, whew, I'm done establishing the costs required over there in Japan. Just spoke to my buddy through AIM who works at eMarket co in Japan. They view like 30,000 cars every week, so I know my selection will be good, especially if I'm patient. Basically, I will be able to buy a 99 Skyline Vspec GTR with 25-30K miles for a very good price through him. In addition to the base price of the car, he laid out just about every cost that I will have to pay to get it over to US shores. It goes as follows:
Ocean freight + container = $3k US
Jap customs fees = $1k US
Basically, if you look
here, you will see that this option is the C&F shipping option. Therefore, that brings the grand total to about $30-40K US, shipped to the US's west coast. That's when Motorex takes over.
Then, on top of Motorex's $25k US for modifications and registration, you will have to pay the US Customs Broker fee which is around $1k US, duties for about $625, and bonds for about $3375. That brings the US grand total to $25k + $1k + $3375 + $625 = $30k US. So, adding the total costs together... you'll get $60-70k total. Not bad for a fairly low mileage Vspec, no?
Oh, by the way, my friend at eMarket warned me about a current $1k US container charge right now if you try to ship to the west coast with anything in a container. He says it has to do with the recent strikes or whatever that they had out there, and since they're still backlogged, there's an extra charge for importing anything in a container. So, right now is not the best time to do this anyway. Plus, I turn 25 in a few months, so my insurance rates should plummet. So, for now, I'm just gonna sit back, and just enjoy knowing I will have a Skyline comin soon. :smoker2:
