Acceleration

I bought a used 500 w/ 24k miles. I am very happy with the car other than one annoying feature. It seems to hesitate when accelerating, very noticeable at slow speeds. The dealer said that is normal. This car has 6-speed transmission which I have never driven before so so maybe I just need to get used to it. But I would be interested in anybody else's experiences on this. This car does not have AWD or the CVT.
Thanks

Re: Acceleration

I do not own one, but have rented a Five Hundred about 12 or 13 times. This year I understand it has become the new Taurus. I really love everything about the car, even considered taking my wife for a ride in one, but they have all shown the same hesitation that you speak of. Once it decides to go, it is a rabbit. I have finally accepted it, and figured if I wanted to drag race, I'd get a '69 Camaro.

I was actually checking out the Five Hundred forums to see what repair experiences everyone is having. Must not be too bad, there are only 9 threads.

Lightbulb Re: Acceleration

I own an 06 with awd cvt tranny and the car is without a doubt underpowered from a stop but seems to do well once you are rolling. i agree with the other fellow that if I wanted a racing car that is what I would have bought. Had the car for 16 mths now and have had no problems with it. Our family loves this car and would recommend to anyone. The new version(taurus) has a new motor that should address the power issue

Thumbs up Re: Acceleration

As a technician working at a dealership, I can tell you that they ARE slow on acceleration. It is a bigger bodied car than the previous taurus, but when they tried to make things different it just didnt work out to well and had discontinued the vehicle because of the sales percentage. Thats why you now see the NEW taurus with a 3.5L instead of the 3.0L. Its normal..

I too have this acceleration issue but now that my 05 with 6 speed has 99K my car seems to get confused with the hesitant shifting. So now every once in a while my car gets confused on what gear and when to shift too.....so it shifts very hard on occasion. Any suggestions?

Re: Acceleration

I hope sportage power4lif responds to your question since he is a technician. To me, your problem sounds like you need to change your transmission fluid. I would take it to a trustworthy shop if you know one.

Re: Acceleration

Hey guys, thanks for bringing the forum to my attention. Tedhontz, as Jimbobx4 suggested check your transmission fluid. They say the fluid doesn't need to be changed until 150,000 miles, but don't believe it. Personally, I check mine at 60,000 miles. If its brown get it changed before it gets any worse. If the fluid is black, then something is wrong at 99,000. If the fluid looks ok, have a dealership check to see if your pcm needs updating. Believe it or not, when I bought my 05, it needed an update and wasn't even a year old. There could be multiple updates for it, but they choose which one is needed. Some updates you won't notice, but the car will.
