92 STS Suspention Question
I may need to replace the struts on my 92 STS soon, I was told they don't make the electronic adjustable struts anymore. has anyone gone to the aftermarket non-adjustable ones. I plan on doing it myself, but what brands are good? How much can you tell a difference in the ride? Is it worth trying to fix the sensors or electronics, or is it better to just bypass it? Any info is much appriciated

Are your struts bad/soft/leaking or are you just getting the "Service Ride Control" message on the DIC?
Non-electronic struts are available from Strutmasters, Arnott, and Monroe, plus others, I would imagine. |

The best price I was able to find for the conversion is http://www.suspension-alternatives.c...ion-Parts.html . This has all four for about 350! That is a great price for new parts that you need to take care of regularly plus they have a good waranty that they back up too. Most shops will charge you about the same price for doing regular struts and shocks.

I am getting noise in my front end, which leads me to believe it is either struts, or strut mounts, but if I'm going to do one I might as well do the other. The struts do not seem to have a leak or anything, but I am getting the service ride control message.

On these cars such a noise, typically a clunk, is often due to worn sway bar bushings. You may want to take a good look at that before you get into the struts.
How many miles on the car? |

The sway bar end links are also known to produce a clunk noise. I replaced them on my '94 Deville and the clunk went away.

130k, I never thought about that, thanks.
I don't have too much experiance in diagnosing suspention issues. I haven't crawled under it yet, but plan to in the next few days. Is there a way to test it or will it be pretty obvious? I know every car is different but what should I look for?

The bushings may be obvious, if you take one off and see it's pretty worn and/or cracked. They are cheap to replace anyways. The sway bar end links can look fine, but make a clunk. With that many miles, I'd replace them and that should solve your clunk noise. They are around $90 for the set, but it's worth it if they get rid of the clunk!

I have a question about Cadillac suspension, maybe we can expand this thread a little.
My 95 Eldorado has begun doing a little side-to-side shimmy at crawls speeds. It's kind of a waddle, seems to be originating from the rear end. It disapears once I get over 20mph, not the car, the waddling. lol I checked the lug nuts, they are all tight. Also, it is independent of applying the brakes. Any notions on this one? thanks
