Oil Change Light

My sister in law has a venture, not sure of the year, and I don't know the engine, but she says the Change Oil Light is on. She also tells me there is a way to reset the light. She just had the oil changed, but doesn't know how to reset the light. Anyone know how to do this?

Basically all Ventures came with the 3.4 engine. Not knowing the year there is two possibilities that may work. The first is to turn the ignition on but do not start the van.Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. If you notice the "Change Oil Soon" light flash that means it is resetting. The second way is to turn the key to "Off". Push the trip reset button and hold it for 4 to 5 seconds. If it has properly reset itself it should read "Oil 100". Either way that info should be in the owner's manual under the heading "Oil Life", if your sister-in-law still has the manual.

I've said this in another forum. Sometimes the owner or in this case,the poster may not have access to the owner's manual(since the vehicle is not his) so they came here for advice, which we are more than happy to oblige. There have been many vehicles I have purchased in the last 20+ years that no longer had the owner's manual with them. Back then there was no internet or eBay to buy one, so a site like this would've come in handy. Plus, many people may not think to look there first, (maybe this site is "first nature" to many to get advice? )

That first way with the accelerator pedal sounds like what she was trying to explain to me, but she couldn't remember the actual procedure. I have told her what you told me. She will let me know if it works. Thanks for the quick reply.

your missing a step .. after the 3 depress and release, you need to turn to off and then start the car .. it resets after that .. thats how mine was, and mine reads 99. I have a 2001 venture, the service manager told me how to do it , very shocking.. lol

That might be the case since yours is a '01 model. The info I listed above covers up to the model year 2000, so it may be different. Who knows, it seems they like to change procedures every once in awhile and not keep things standard
