Me vs VR4

I finally raced another car worth talking about. Last night I at the local spot I spotted a nice looking 3000gt. Carbon fiber hood nice looking exhaust..etc Beautiful car. So I quickly jumped in my car and went after him. I caught up to him at a red light, but there was a car in front of him. After he agreed to race, he said he'd just follow me. So I just went to the highway. We just merged on the highway and there was no cars so I put it in second and gpt ready, but when he got up beside me he said he wated to go from a stop... Well, even tho thats not exactly what I wanted to hear, I said ok whatever. We quickly stopped and his buddy counted down 3..2..1...GO! Immediatly he got the jump on me(big surprise). I had a bad launch... I spun thru first horribly so I just shifted into second early. as I got tracton he was about 2 maybe 2.5 cars ahead. And to my surprise I started reeling him in. I passed him up and proceeded to put 2 cars on him before hitting 108mph and shutting down. After the race I talked to him for a little and he said he did have a little trouble going into third, but he admitted it would'nt have made that much of a difference anyway. He had exhaust, bov, and some other little stuff.

It was a great race! I'd love to run him again. He admitted to not being the best driver because he doesn't race alot, which was cool. He wants to line em up again sometime. I def didn't think I was going to win this one.

LOL I think the word is out on my car... before the race he asked me if I was the fastcavy he had heard about! I thought that was awesome.

Re: Me vs VR4

good race

but with all that performance $$$ invested in that car, why do you still have the 108mph speed limiter enabled?

Re: Me vs VR4

I usually only do 1/4 mile runs. besides, I still have the stock brakes, rims, tires, and suspension. The car doesn't feel very comfortable at 100+ mph speeds. Mainly because I don't have the $$$. So until I hit 108 in the 1/4 mile I"m not going to mess with it.

I also heard that if you do bypass the limiter and sell your car it is odometer fraud.

Pennsylvania... when you cut off power to the limiter your odometer stops counting the miles... therefore the mileage would in incorrect if you sell it you have to sell it as "mileage unknown" or it's considered fraud.

There might be another way to get rid of the limiter, but other than using HP tuners I don't know.

Re: Me vs VR4

I had my speed limiter removed and my odometer still counts the correct miles.

I have my limiter removed, and damned straight it kept counting miles. I wish it hadn't. Just have it removed with programming or something, and don't cut it.

Re: Me vs VR4

What kind of cars?? I bet it wasn't a cavalier. I only know one way of getting passed the limiter and I would have to install a a switch and flip it right before I got to 108. after I flip the switch I'll lose my speedo and it would count the miles.

lol youve never heard of Hptuners? Hptuners has tuning software out that lets you fully tune your car. Everything from timming, spark, fuel, injectors, SPEED LIMITER, rev limiter, Map tables, VE tables, anything GM can do, you can do.

I find it hard to believe you were smart enough to put a turbo on the cavalier, one that is pieced together from another car, but dont know what Hptuners is. Its pretty much the godsent of the Jbody, the holly bible.

hmm how did i miss that, oh well i retract my statement.

Dont you have any friends with HPtuners or someone in your area that can tune it? It only cost 2 credits or 100 bucks for someone to tune it.

Re: Me vs VR4

I drive a trailblazer (GM). The speed limiter is not a mechanical thing it's part of the ECM. Maybe not in a cavalier. You should save some money and get on a dyno. I bet dollars to doughnuts your leaving alot of power on the table not tuning for that turbo.

I wouldn't bet. I know for a fact he IS not getting the most out of that setup without having tuned. He is also playing with fire. One bad batch of fuel and WOT and he could be looking at some cracked pistons, ring lands, or even some bent rods.

Also, I just don't see why taking the rev limiter off would keep the odometer from metering the mileage. They are unrelated systems.

using the method they're talking about requires disconnecting the vehicle speed sensor, which is needed for the speedometer and odometer to work
