99 Ford Taurus Headlight Covers Fogged

Hi all,

I've searched the forms and am curious if the Headlight Assembly of the 99 Ford Taurus removes as easily as removing four bolts around the assembly or will I have to have my mechanic remove the front bumper?

They are fogged and darkened, and i'm looking into the suggestion of the 600 & 2000 wet grit w/ Autosol treatment.

Kindest Regards,

99

You have to remove the four bolts plus the pincher bolt (its a long silver looking screw) then the assempbly should pop out. Yet if I was you I would do what i did and just buff the lamps right where they sit. I used some rubbing compound for plastics I got from autozone. With that and some elbow greas I got my headlights looking brand new. You could also use a buffer but i just grabbed a terry cloth, make sure those lights are clean before you start.

good luck

Re: 99 Ford Taurus Headlight Covers Fogged

The 99 Taurus headlights are supposed to have a darker tint to them. However, they do tend to fog up after a few years.

Before taking the headlights out, I'd try a product called Past-X by Meguiars. Or if you don't want to spend the money on that, you can always try wetsanding with 1000 grit sandpaper lightly and see what that gets you.

From what I've seen with other people, both of the methods that I mentioned worked pretty well.

I had an old Mustang that got cloudy lens and spent hours wet sanding but they finally looked pretty good. Buffing OK but go easy because you make an error and press to hard or the disc turns to fast and gets the plastic to hot.

Do it the easy way, watch the and spend the twenty bucks. Let us know if it works. opcorn:

I used the 600 & 2000 wet sanding option, followed that with rubbing compond and then polishing compound. My headlights look great again and I am able to see clearly at night. It took about 30 minutes per car by hand. I think I spent about $14 for everything and had plenty leftover to do my GrandPrix and then went about removing superficial scratchs from both cars.
