the moon

can someone give me some reason to go to the moon. people have gone in the past, the us government was tossing around the idea of going back, india is now planning to send a probe to get a 3d map of the moon and stuff.

what i can't figure out is what could be so valuable up there that it would warrant spending millions or billions of dollars to investigate it.

the only thing i've come up with is mining, there could be some metals up there in abundance that we could use. any other ideas?

Re: the moon

Yuengling and steelers, good combination.

About the moon, NASA might use it as a pit stop before a mission to mars. Rockets could refuel and stuff, although an orbiting space station around the moon would be more efficient. Less fuel wasted breaking the moon's gravitational pull.

Re: the moon

What are you talking about? The US had never landed a man on the moon, and if they did so they would be the first ones.

The Moon Landing was the greatest hoax in history.

The moon has a significant supply of Helium-3, which is highly sought after for fusion reactions.
Fusion reactions have the potential to create immense amounts of energy (think Spiderman 2), with very little pollution. Its said that a few Shuttles full of Helium-3 has the potential to power the face of the planet for a year or so.
According to Popular Mechanics, the price of an ounce of Helium-3 has a "projected value of $40,000".
Inaddition, the Chinese, with their Lunar Exploration Program, and the Russians (RKK Energiya) are also strongly considering mining the moon for Helium-3.

Also, as tman said, the moon's frozen water supply could be used as fuel, creating a pit stop to Mars.

Finally, what about colonization? Somebody, sometime, has got to put things in motion and say overpopulation is getting out of hand, we need to start thinking about colonizing other parts of our solar system.
