Euro Gauges into a base Lumina?
Hi I have a 93 Chevy Lumina base, auto, 3.1L and i am wondering if i can swap out my original gauge cluster for a Lumina Euro gauge cluster. The only reason why i would want to do this is because i want a tachometer... I dont have one and on the plus side it would look OEM vs. a aftermarket stuck on my column or something like that?
So my question is: Can i use a Lumina Euro gauge cluster in a base Lumina? Thanks! |

You might be able to, but I, personally wouldn't. You'll have a different odometer and that would bug the hell out of me, maybe not you tho. You could keep your guage cluster and get a tach, temp guage, etc...I think they make a bezel that runs up the door trim (beside the windshield)....If you can't find that, I'm sure someone would be able to fabricate one. I'm just not sure how convenient a row of guages would be in that location....or anywhere else in these cars for that matter

Ahh yes. the Odometer i for got about that little detail. So i guess i will find a nice aftermarket one that fits the bill. I wonder if they make digital tachometers?
Thanks! |

Re: Euro Gauges into a base Lumina?
I've switched out exactly how you want to do it. However, I also went from a 2.5 liter to a 3.1 liter, complete with engine wire harness. The 2.5 had base cluster and "dummy lights" and the 3.1 had the gauges since it was a Euro. We were going to leave the base cluster in when we did the motor swap, but when we fired up the car, the cluster did some wacky stuff. Why? Because you're going from receiving signals to turn on dummy lights instead of moving gauges - ex. oil pressure, temperature, voltage. Anyway, had we swapped out the entire interior wire harness (NO WAY!) it would have worked, but there was a website that I went to which showed me how to re-arrange the wires from the harness to the cluster to make them work the right way. Where did I find the website? Right on the AF board! I'll shoot you a link as soon as I can find it.
p.s. my odometer readings were off... I just wrote down what the mileages were when we did the swap on the original and on the new cluster and just keep that in mind for reference. They were about 32,000 miles different (not in my favor either) |

Re: Euro Gauges into a base Lumina?
I did just that! i wondered why my lumina didnt have a tachometer i have seen a few luminas with the tach where the temp guage is and temp was relocated below fuel gauge. So after hitting the nearest pick n pull i found the Instrument cluster with a tachometer. so after about an hour in the baking sun i managed to get it out (two parts the guages and circuit board attached to gauge housing.) I bought it for 15 bucks. i took it home and the next day i pulled my old one out. i examined them and found the only difference was the current was being diverted on the circuit board but sill passed though all neccesary chips and resistors (took several hours to trace most current paths.) So confident that i didnt need to mess with the wiring i installed the new instrament gauge as is and started up the car. Ahhhh worked like a charm. speedo, temp, gas, and tach worked. I drove around the block and everything worked great, so much nicer with a tach.
oh on a side note while the guages are off there are 3 screws that allow you to take off the odometer and housing and place your old one in there. it really doesnt bother me that much to have a change in the odometer. (about 60K in my favor) |
