Unhappy Car Cut Off

My daughter has a 2001 PT Cruiser. She just had a powering steering rack installed with tie rods. Yesterday she was heading home when the car cut off in travel and would not start, turn over or anything. Her lights burned good and her horn would blow, but the car would not start. PLEASE HELP!!

Re: Car Cut Off

Try jump starting. Look for wires that are disconnected. Sounds like a wire to me.

Re: Car Cut Off

I had a friend to hook up a Code Reader/Checker and turn the key and the Reader did not respond. He then hooked it up to his vehicle to make sure it worked and it came on. Where can I find info on -system fuses, OB2 or test the computer and where is it's location.

Re: Car Cut Off

Check the owners manual for fuse box. There should be 2. Check battery and charge. Check battery cables for loose or corroded. Look for a wire that came loose when the car was worked on.

Re: Car Cut Off

I checked the fuses and the relays they were all good. I swapped the relays to see if one was bad, all six relays have the same part number. I checked the DC volts out of the battery and it was pulling 12volts. I looked for loose wire did not see any not to say that there aren't. Can you tell me about the computer? I know regular computers shut down and won't reboot if they go bad, could this be the same for the car?

Re: Car Cut Off

No these computers are a lot better. They don't crash. Look for a wire around the starter that is loose or disconnected.

Re: Car Cut Off

with the key on at the odometer does it say no bus? whoever worked on it may have pinched a wire in the harness and yes the pcm will cause a no crank/start just order pcm for an 02 sebring and that fixed that car and order one yesterday for an 04 caravan both are no crank/start conditions and both of the pcms fall under the 7/70 emissions warranty.

Re: Car Cut Off

I checked the car and did not see anything like "no bus" with the key on. How much does a PCM cost? If they pinch a wire in the harness and I replace the PCM, won't I be killing the PCM if I don't find the pinch wire first?

Re: Car Cut Off

I keep hearing about a crankshaft position sensor. Can you tell me where it is located and how to check it to see if it is sending a signal to the PCM. Also are PCM's expensive?

Re: Car Cut Off

It still sounds like a wire on the starter loose. Look around where they were working to replace the rack. They disconnected the battery. Are you sure it is connected tight ? Wires get broken off on the starter is a common problem.

Re: Car Cut Off

Taillight if the starter wire was loose would the car cut off in motion? Would the crankshaft positioner sensor also cut the car off in motion?

Re: Car Cut Off

If that is the same wire that powers up the computer, yes. And sometime it is. Look for power to the computer. Chrysler usually has a sererate wire from the battery to the fuse box that powers all electrical. Then to a ECM fuse and then to the computer.

Re: Car Cut Off

i have a 2001 p t cruiser, 2.4l. engine died suddenly but later started. however noise it made prompted me to have it towed to nearest garage. also oil light was on but showed full. garage tech said crank position sensor tested bad & oil send unit was bad too. replacing these & plugs did not help. fuel pressure & injector function check out & no codes are showing. garages all-data yielded no useful info.
