low coolant light coming on

i recently changed the coolant in my 96 grand am and now the low coolant light will not go away! i checked the level afterwards and it is fine. has anyone else run into this? hard to imagine that the sensor became faulty exactly when i changed the coolant. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Re: low coolant light coming on

Remove the sensor and clean it. Once you reinstall it the light should work properly. These become corroded and will send a false light. Common issue.

Re: low coolant light coming on

update: light went out! last weekend i screwed with it, unplugged it, tilted reservoir to get air bubbles out, etc. a couple of days later, it went out on it's own! one of the things i check that i thought wasn't too bad an idea, i dipped the sensor in a glass of water-and the light went out, so i knew from there on that the sensor was ok.

Re: low coolant light coming on

I use to own a 99 grand am gt, trust me i had every problem with that car you could ever imagine. The coolant light is just a shitty censor design. Where pontiac placed the censor was a bad idea. When your coolant gets hot, especially on warm days, its going to create an air pocket in your reservior, which eventually messes with your censor and tells you your coolant is low. Im really not sure what to do to fix this, never looked into it.....
