How long, or many miles after it becomes pretty much imperative to change your o2 Sensors. I only ask because my 99 has 113k on it, and I've never seen a "check Engine light". The car has had maintenance everywhere else, except new o2 sensors. I assumed if it were bad, the car woudl run bad, smell bad, or let me know via "Check Engine light". It does seem to be eating alot of gas though. Perhaps this is the problem and might solved it by changing them out, or do the usualy last this long ?

I have a similiar prob with my 99 gs with the ill-fated vulcan. On the highway i get close to 30mph, but in the city you would think i have a lambo, 9-12mph if i am lucky. Replaced the fuel filter, pump sensor & floater assemblies that are connected in gas tank... or so the mechanic told me. I miss my 89 escort gt, easier to fix. My friends and I are gonna replace the plugs and wires, and the air filter and see if this works. I will let you know. I will check my o2 sensor to though.

LoL, do your thing with the plugs. But I have to admit, for the 1st time in my life, I did a complete tune up on the sable, and I didnt really notice much a difference at all. Usually, with other cars, I can feel a little more performance, increased gas mileage, smoother ride, etc. ... .
this time, it didint do much . . . . ?

so, anyone know about how long these things usually last? And where are they located ? Is it a DIY job, or easier to pay someone to do it ?

They should be changed out. Location: exhaust manifold

Typical recommended replacement is 100,000. Mine didn't fail till 180,000. Mileage will go down as computer tries to adjust for optimum conditions that it can't obtain.
