Broken Transponder Chip. Need Help!!!

The chip to my key is broken and I don't have a spare key. A locksmith has tried to reprogram another key, but was unable to. I tried locating the factory alarm disarm wire, what i was told was to ground it to the chassis and it disables the anti-theft features so I can start the car without the transponder. I couldn't find the wire in the driver kick panel (a dark green/purple wire. I can't afford to take it to the dealer. I guess the question is....Does the factory alarm disarm wire really work? (I don;t want to waste time looking for it) Is there any other way to disable the anti-theft feature until I can take it tot the dealer? Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Broken Transponder Chip. Need Help!!!

The alarm disarm wire will not allow you to start the vehicle. That wire is used by the door key cylinder switches to disable the alarm system when you use the key to unlock the doors. It has no effect on the PATS system, which is the system that needs the programmed transponder keys to enable the engine to start.

With your PATS system, you need two programmed keys to program additional keys, or you need the dealer or a locksmith with the proper tools to access the PATS system and program new keys. I'd suggest you have a third key programmed and put it in a safe place. This third key can be something you buy off of eBay and program yourself if you want to save some money.

Out of curiosity, how did the transponder break? Is it a mechanical break in the head of the key, or is there a chance the problem is really the PATS antenna in the steering column?
