You can usually pick up a mid 90's 300Z for around 18 grand. I got lucky and found my 93, 2+2 for 16, the dealer was a moron. Ayway, it depends on what you plan on using the car for, everyday driver, weekend racer, hobby car. Mods for the 300 ZX are NOT cheap, I ordered a light weight drive shaft for 1100 bucks, and just recently replaced the front end with the factory style, 850 plus paint. The used turboes are nutorius for going bad due to poor past maint, plus they have a habbit of burning up one of the under the hood wiring harnesses due to higher engine heat. If your looking for something fast and agile I would go with a NA style Z, Ive taken in town corners at intersections at 45 mph....LOL it blows peoples minds when you have the Z-rated tires on the car. Plus with the automatic you have traction control that cant be beat, couple that with a weight distribution of damn near 50/50....oh la la!

I don't know if you have to pay for your own insurance under your own name but get ready to pay a tonne if you get the TT 300zx. Although you'll probably insure it under daddy's name.

What's up G-Forces

[b]

I have an n/a putting out 270 to the wheels. I have spent a lot of money on it. Though most of the mods I have done are just going to be transfered when I drop in the VG30DETT. I've got in the engine about 335 hp. With the TwinTurbo it will be around 465-470 hp at the flywheel. Which with weight comes out to around maybe 420-435 at the wheels as aposed to 270! A little bit of a gain! My car also is an automatic. I have the HKS ALC ll which is a computerized quickshifter! It only kicks in under race conditions, so it is normal city driving...Then when it's time to go, it is a perfect race shift every time! Throw on larger intercoolers, gut the precats, and add some larger down-pipes. Your looking at Viper toasting speeds! Then just for fun Larger Turbos, and a 100 shot spool up kit! There will be few in the area who could keep up with you.

As for quality...the VG30DE & VG30DETT are workhorse engines. n/a's go on forever. TT's get into the 150,000 mile range w/o any problems. There are your exceptions, people driving it hard, not keeping it up. Depending on what you want, it's all up to you. Check out STILLEN.com & JimWolfTechnology.com two great sites to show you your options. Also check out SGP racing great packages and prices, good for gaining some knowledge of what's out there. Ok I will stop now I could talk about the damn Z for hours!

Late :jump:

The 300zx is a great car! One of my favs, if I don't get a new/used Z in the next couple years I'll track down a 300 and mod it to the tits too.

Have you seen the project 300zx in Sport Compact Car? Mike Kojima built a serious motor that he hopes will put down 600hp at the wheels! That would be sweet!

Hey man,

I would strongly recommend a tt 300ZX. I have driven my Dad's one quite a bit and I would have say that it would be very hard to go back to an NA after that!

Wow you guys must pay heaps for 300's over there........Dad's one cost him $9700 NZ ($4000 US). Pity the tranny blew up.....that cost another $2K to get a replacement.

Yeah there wasn't a lot sold here in North America. I'll bet the price is nice and low because of the Grey market import from Japan. Must be nice.

US dollars maybe. That's still no $4k US. The cheapest 300ZX TT I found on the auto trader site was 15K Canadian...it had some mad miles on it. I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole, oh and it was an auto. :
