1998 sunfire gt 2.4liter

I have a 98 sunfire with a 2.4 motor.I bought the car with a blown engine and have put in a 2.4 motor again, when i go to start it with the key turned ahead
i have no waring lights on the dash & the fuel gauge does not work. The car will start and 2 sec shut off. From what i have been reading it sounds like it may be the theft system, but i don't have any lights on the dash working.Any help would be great
