Fuel Gauge Wrong?

I hope so. I just got a 02 LS with 79k on it. Yesterday on a trip to town, about 15 miles according to the gauge I used 1/4 tank of gas. Same happened on a trip the other day when I had almost half a tank , parked on a hill with it idling for a few minutes and got back in the car and the low fuel light was on and the highest it got back to was the last red line. Please tell me this is not normal and it is something between the gas tank and the gauge that is screwy.

Re: Fuel Gauge Wrong?

Correct, you could not use this much fuel and have the engine running properly and no check engine lite or leak.

Re: Fuel Gauge Wrong?

Good. Didn't want a trip to town to be costing me $10. So is there a normal cause of the gauge problem. Figured something must be wrong tonight when I went down the road a couple of towns and it barely moved a notch. Nothing like a whole new car to figure the bugs out on.

Re: Fuel Gauge Wrong?

Tank unit is possible, there was an issue with fuel a while back down south that ruined some tank units, this would have to be checked out with an ohmeter.

Re: Fuel Gauge Wrong?

Well I am down south and the truck was owned by someone local as well since it was new so I will look into that. Might explain the gauge on my 96 Blazer floating real bad as well. Thanks.
