2000 windstar EGR

Hello,
First timer here,
I just changed the EGR valve on my 2000 windstar two days ago.
And just now realized that I used the wrong gasket sealer.
I used the blue (water) sealer instead of the hi temp sealer.
Will this cause a problem?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: 2000 windstar EGR

Take it off and just use a new gasket, no sealer.

Noticed you posted about the misfire also. Are you getting codes. Why did you replace the egr. Very few problems with the egr valve itself. MOre time than not its the dpfe. Your problem could also be clogged egr ports. Post back symptoms and codes before replacing parts except those like plugs and wires which have lots of miles on them.

Re: 2000 windstar EGR

96wWindstar180k;

Thanks for your response.
My windstar started acting up then stalled and the CEL came on. So I took it to AutoZone
To have CEL read.
It came back with 4 codes
1; bank 1 sensor
2; bank 2 senor
3; EGR value
4; misfire in cylinder 2
I was told that I should replace the EGR value first
As that will sometimes fix the o2 sensor codes.
After I replace the EGR value AutoZone cleared the CEL.
Which of course came back the same day. They read again and
The only code was the misfire in cylinder 2.
But the van stated to run really bad, it doesn’t matter if I’m driving
Or at a stop and just idling it misfire continually.
I am by no means a mechanic; I have no ideal what I’m doing
But my funds are low and this is my only transportation.
The reason I posted about using the wrong sealant is
That it makes sense the if the blue sealant can’t hold up to the
Heat then it might go in to the intake (I think that is what the EGR is
Attach to.)
Last question: would it be worth taking it to a place like firestone
To have them do a check the CEL.
I think its bout $90 but they are supposedly able to tell me more info
Bout the code.

Again thanks

Re: 2000 windstar EGR

Sounds like the clasic EGR ports, vac leak, intake leak misfires to me. IMHO stay far away from the firestone's etc wen you are trying to save money. Next time you get the codes red at AZ or someplace, get the code number. Dont go by what the guy is thinking is wrong. These things almost never need EGR valves. Just becouse it is a egr falt does not mean its the valve. It means its part of the swstem.

My guess is that you have plugged EGR ports, and is throwing a low flow EGR code. What happands is that they send all the flow to one or two cyl's and cause them to misfire. Hence the misfire code.

So I would go back to AZ, have the codes run agean, and get us some numbers.

s1120 Is right you should go to Auto Zone and get the number codes. One question is it using any antifreeze? Sometimes you can have a intake manifold leak into one of the cylinders. In your case #2 and that can be the start of your problem. Before you go to far and start replacing things have them give you the codes. More often then not the egr codes are caused by the dpfe.
