Rebuilt 87 22r motor problems
Ok me and my dad have rebuilt my 87 toyota 22r. My dad has rebuilt motors before but never a 4cyl or a jap motor but we have rebuilt it the right way. The problem im having is when we try to turn it over, all it does is turn over intill you hold the carb half open and when it finally cranks up it sounds like its out of time.
But everything is in time and we dont know what else to do please help me im tired of working on this thing |

Re: Rebuilt 87 22r motor problems
Do you have the timing chain in the right spot? A lot of people put the top cam sprocket on 12 (straight up); when it actually sits right aroung 11:45? If not, check distributor; should be stabbed at 5 degrees before TDC. If thats not the problem; let me know. I own a toy shop! Ill do my best to help.

87' 22R i changed my distributor o-ring & now i can't get it started, marked the position of the dist. b4 i took it off. i it 2 TDC on the compression stroke & the rotor @ #1, firing order 1423 cw, but some where else online i found 1342 cw. when i try 2 start it it sounds like all the cylindres are firing properly except one i can hear a pist sound ( pressure releasing) .... is it sparking 2 soon or 2 late? i try 2 fully advance & retard the dist. but it doesn't help, i read some where else that you can adjust the dist. further by moving the gotor gear back or forward one notch= to ? degrees, should i try this?
