Ferrari's 60th : Ferrari F1/89 640 (Protar = Poo)- As driven by Mr. Moustache

Okay, so here is my latest model. Not the best of kits to work with, this Protar kit. Obviously it shows it's age.
There are probably better kits of this model, but I just liked the boxart and wanted a big challenge. Making the worst kit I could find to look decent.

So after really a lot of putty, rescribing, cutting, filling, filing, breaking and glueing, it was in primer.

Well, i guess I 'll let the pictures do the talking and I'll tell you at the end what are the obvious changes to the base model.

Obviously, PE belts, MFH cloth for the seats and scratchbuilt rear mirrors, detailed interior have been made.

Also, PE nuts and bolts on the bodywork and a after-race-look was achieved.

Then just lots of puzzling, and tweaking the suspentions and a glossy paintscheme. All in all, quite a lot of work to make this piece of poo look good, i hope you like it.opcorn:

A special thanks should go to Brian, for some good advice on the paint!

Ciao!

Oli

Dude! That's bloody beautiful!!!(please allow me to use some British English lol) Though had much preview before but I'm still amazed by the final result. That's a masterpiece! Very nice shine and great details there, I can't see it's a crappy protar kit anymore, that must be Tami stuff lol!!!

Congratulations O!!!

Re: Ferrari's 60th : Ferrari F1/89 640 (Protar = Poo)- As driven by Mr. Moustache

I'm a bit offended any time I heard something about bad quality of Protar's stuff: Mr. Provini was an awesome champion: he won the '57 125 class World Championship and the '58 250 clas WC, and much more success until the 16 September 1966 when he had a dramatic accident at the MAN island track: from those day he can't not only drive a bike but also walk. So he switched his passion on a new activity and found the Protar (Provini Tarquinio). He leave us in the 2005.

I have to agree with the quality, compared with modern tools, but if i take in a hand a Protar kit, with all its plus and fault, I'll feel the passion of this guy and his staff. Think also that this little factory hadn't the business and money of Jap's bigs, but he was able to achieve some pearl.

So, respect. (I'm upset with my buddy Tang, as..... )

On the other hand I know the quality of this kit is far from good LOL

So amazing work Oli, you switch it in a perfect replica.

I'm sorry to say so gio and thanks for the lesson. You're really erudite, respect!

At least we're fortunately to see our buddy Oli took that passion and brought us such a great work!

That is the most shiny red Poo I have ever seen!

I'll pick one of these up next time I go to Aldi's

Amazingly clean build and equally amazing photography. You have jumped over the next threshold IMO

Most impressive Oli! Just goes to show that you CAN polish a turd.
I take it the Protar is in 1/24th scale?

Looking very nice! I just sold same kit.

Beautiful finish and gloss. I've learned that building a Protar kit is like turning water in to wine, but you've shown otherwise.

Is it me or did they model the cockpit way too wide? It looks disproportionate. Either that or the sidepods are not wide enough.

Most impressive! Bad kit is not a problem for a good modeler. Congrats on your achievement - she's a beauty!
