'97 Grand Am won't allow key lock/removal
Occasionally, when returning shift knob to PARK, I can shut the engine off but not go the one click further that locks the steering wheel and allows key removal. Tickling the shift knob button several times will eventually result in a solenoid click from under the dash, then the ignition can be turned to the LOCK/REMOVE KEY position.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a micro-switch at the base of the shift knob/console that is the likely culprit? Thanks for any help. Patrick |

Re: '97 Grand Am won't allow key lock/removal
Sounds like it is your Shift Interlock solenoid.
Sometimes the switch in the console gets dirty and malfuntions, might check that first.
