95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
100,000 miles. The check air suspension light often comes on. Last week, when laden with heavy luggage, it came on and stayed on. The mechanic wants to put in a new ait suspension module for 270 - 300 and a new level sensor for 110. I don't know if this is necessary or if I trust him. The car seems to be riding OK. Since he checked it out, the light has gone off and has so far stayed off. He warned me to be careful about going over bumps. All opinions are welcome. Thanks all.

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
Welcome to the forums Claveat
![]() If your level is good in the rear and you hear the Air Compressor run (front left fender) when you first start the car, I would first try mis-adjusting, then re-adjusting the height sensors. Your mechanic may have done this and still had a problem... hence his recommendations. Being from a wet climate, your rear height sensor / brackets might be shot. They take allot of abuse exposed down there. Another check, to see if it's leaking dramatically, switch off the system (switch is in the trunk) for at least overnight, then maybe through the next day (depends on what happened overnight) to see if the rear end lowers. I can leave mine off for over a week without any noticeable height change. When you overload the trunk, and fill the back seat area with large breasted women.. does the rear end come up to a normal height within 20/40 seconds ??

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
Did your mechanic check the air suspension for trouble codes? Better yet ask why he/she wants to replace the air suspension module.

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
Hello claveat
Don't spend all that money on new parts. If you think you need them, I have some good used ones much cheeper. Both parts you mentioned are tested for function and are in good working order. [email protected] Sounds like a mechanic wants to make some money off of you. Both parts are very easy to change, you could do it your self. One other thing to check is the connections on the module. You say you had lugage in the trunk, that could have bumped the connector or switch. The module is located on the right side of the trunk behind the on off switch. Mike |

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
I believe you can buy air bags for the towncar for like $50 online....i think $300 is way overpriced. It is possible that one or both of the bags could be leaking. Does your car ride lower in the back than in the front? Or is it lower on one side? If not, then your air suspension is pry fine, could be just the sensor is messed up.

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
Thank you to all who have responded. I have not brought it in yet. The car seems to be a little higher in the rear than in the front. I think I hear some suspension noises towards the front, but am not sure. The car still rides relatively smooth. One thing for sure, I will resist being held hostage to buy dealers parts if I can. Oh, BTW, the "check air suspension light" has not come on this week. I wonder if the mechanic who checked it disabled it somehow?

Re: 95 Ltc "check Air Suspension"
UPDATE FROM OP
Last weekend, I took the car to Punjab on 21 ST in Long Island City. The mechanic diagnosed that one airbag was no good and also that a line to the airbags was bad. Instead of replacing these, he installed springs in place of the airbags. Also, he replace the shocks in the front. This, along with an oil change was done for $200. The car rides higher and better. My question to the AF community is, will I have any future damage due to replacing the airbags with springs? Claveat |
