Heya
How do you guys open your enamel paint bottle caps (like Testor's or Model Master's) that have been "stucked" / glued shut by dried paint? The microwave thing works for acrylic but I haven't tried it with enamel bottles due to the metal cap. I'm no superman and trying to open the cap outright with brute force just end up hurting my palm

hiver,
Here are a couple of tricks I have found to get those 'self-sealing' bottles open. Firstly, get hold of some thinners and a paint brush, now flip that bottle upside down and stand it on its lid. Get some of the thinners on the bristles of your paintbrush and carefully dribble it into the gap between the cap and the bottle, I use about 4 'brush-fulls' of thinners here, now let it stand say 10 minutes....this gives the thinners a chance to work. Now try to open the bottle. Second part of this trick, get a thick/wide elastic/rubber band and wrap it around the cap several times, this will give you 100% more grip on the cap. Now try some more, you may still need some muscle, but it should not take much. This has worked for me several times. Ray

I just take a knive and start jabbing and cutting at it then use brute strength and rip the cap off. It works for me but there is no label left after.

Have you tried running the cap of the bottle under steaming hot water for a few minutes? That should help melt the paint, hopefully your bottles are waterproof

pliers I use Channel locks to open stuck caps and open DEW and SUNNY D Cans and pinching my G/F makes a useful hammer as well

It worked! The trick was to hold the bottle upside down, put the thinner around the cap and immediately (while still upside down) twist the cap. I even got one that I wasnt able to open a month to pop open. Of course, don't open the whole bottle while still upside down :frog: Thank you :silly2: :silly2:
