87 VW Fox - need help

Hello, I acquired this 87 VW Fox for $400 a little over a year ago and drove it until the timing belt went. It has the standard 1.8 litre engine with an aftermarket 5-speed transmission. After replacing the timing belt, I lost interest in fixing the car up until a few weeks ago. I'm having problems with the ignition system and the car won't start at all. When I hook an inductive timing light up to any spark plug wire, or the coil wire, I don't get a flash at all. I checked the coil with an ohmmeter against the repair manual specs and it tests OK. The fuse for the ignition control box is not blown. I am totally out of ideas, and I'm wondering if any other VW/Fox owners can help me out. Thanks!
Dan
