97 Sunfire Coil Problem?

Hi all.

I have been given a 1997 (2.2L) Sunfire that has been sitting for a few months. It started up OK the first few times and ran quite well.

When I went to start it again, it chugged for a second and then went dead. Almost like a short circuit. Even the four-way flashers would not work. I looked in the fuse box and found no problems. By this time, the car seemed to come back to life. It started, but would only fire on cylinders 2 and 3.

Could the fusible link be blown? Could it be the coil? Is it common for a short circuit like this on a 97?

Also, where are the fusible links located?

Finally, is it worth putting much money into the car since it has 300,000 KM on it?

Thanks for the help.

Re: 97 Sunfire Coil Problem?

start with the plugs and wires if you havent, if it is mis firing it should be giving you an engine light possibly read that if it has it and determine then before you buy anything expensive

Re: 97 Sunfire Coil Problem?

I will certainly look at the wires. I don't think it is the problem, though. It was running fine before I parked it, and then 2 cylinders went out at the same time. I will still check the wires.

The "check engine" light did not come on, but I guess I should still check the error codes.

Thanks for the help.
