A/C not cooling

'99 malibu, 183k, no real issues. Did the fix on the A/C control head (cleaned the contacts) and it cooled good for a few days. Now, it won't cool a degree (and I mean not one degree) for at least 5 minutes after you engage the compressor. It would cool fine before the fix, when the compressor would be engaged. Now after about 5 minutes, you get maybe 15 degree drop, even at interstate speeds. The compressor is engaging and staying engaged (visibly confirmed), the heater damper is not stuck (confirmed visibly and when you turn to heat you get much hotter air), and it has 34 psi of freon on the low side, the same as it had a few weeks ago before the control head fix. Any ideas?

Re: A/C not cooling

Sounds like you are low on freon. What is the high side reading ?

Re: A/C not cooling

I haven't checked the high side but spec for the low side is 25 to 40 psi, depending on outside temps. I've checked it in the past and a few months ago (when it was still cooling just fine but the compressor was cycling due to the controls) and it has been 32 to 34 psi. Besides, if it was low enough to where it won't cool at all, the low pressure switch wouldn't let the compressor clutch engage, let alone stay constantly engaged like normal. I've run vehicles with low freon and even though the compressor is constantly cycling due the low pressure switch, they still cooled some. This one doesn't cool any.

What about the coil in the compersor is it kick in do you hear the clutch kick once the a/c is on and only once or does it kick the stop the kicks agian if that the case well, turn the car off jack the car up where the compersor is try to move the clutch only if it doesn't well the compersor is no good if it does move then check for leaks

I think you're typing way too fast, if you make your typing clearer and make sense then you might get better replies. He says the compressor IS engaged all the time. Personally, I think you have a blend door problem, possibly the switch you just repaired?? Has this been happening ever since?? If so then that would be my suspect.
