Red face Stupid Question about rotors!

Ok, I know that when you change your rotors you have to clean them with break cleaner. Here is the stupid question, why? What is the signifigance of doing this? Is it determental if it is not done?

TIA

Re: Stupid Question about rotors!

Not a stupid question.

Any contamination(sp) will not allow the brakes to perform to 100%, in a nutshell. Is it detramental, not really. Would I clean the brakes before using them, probably give a shot of cleaner.

The biggest issue with new rotors is proper bedding.

Durring the creation of the rotor, there is alot of machining done, with oil used to cool it. So the oil residue may still be on the rotors.
