Annual Vehicle Inspection (Emissions+Safety)

What all do they check in an Annual Vehicle Inspection (Emissions+Safety).
I guess that would vary from state to state, but there must be a written protocol/standard for this issued by State DMVs. Where do I find that protocol specially for NC state??
All the Vehicle Inspection Centers must be having a Vehicle Inspection Checklist/Sheet. How do I get hold of one??

Re: Annual Vehicle Inspection (Emissions+Safety)

For safety checks (in canada anyways), they make sure your SRS is working. hence the light turns on when the ignition is "on", and turns off after a few seconds. They then inspect your lights, signals, reflectors. They all have to be the right colours. your seatbelts are inspected for tears and functionality. it really doesn't differ all that much from state to state. It's just loose ends. Depending on who you get, you might pass with flying colours or fail miserably. It just depends on how stingey they are. I guess you're trying to not give them a reason to fail you.
