leather wrapped steering wheel

what do y'all recommend for cleaning/maintaining a leather steering wheel? Mine used to be nice and shiny/slick, but after an 800 miles trip, it became somewhat dull looking and not as slick. just wondering if there's anything that I should use or anything that I should avoid.

Re: leather wrapped steering wheel

well i run a detail shop so i can help you out. it sounds funny but its the easiet way for people without chemicals to clean stuff such as that. Get a Mr. clean sponge (the white brick looking things) and dampen it with water, rub the leather with it then dry with with a clean towel and all your dirt will be gone. You can then put some conditioner on it, but do not use a lot sicne then it will become slippery

Re: leather wrapped steering wheel

thanks for the reply. I always wondered if those mr clean bars could be used in the car!! I've got some marks on the door trim that won't come off...perhaps the eraser would do some good for that. As for the steering wheel, I might just have to give that a try! I wonder if using leather conditioner on the wheel might be a bad idea..not because of the greasiness, but because it says that it will soften the leather. If I do decide to use the conditioner, I'll definately use a very small amount for both reasons. Any other suggestions? thank you!!

Re: leather wrapped steering wheel

for the dirt in ur door trim get a pretty firm birssel paint brush and if you have any access to a interior clean dab the brush in that and then work the brush over the mark. DO NOT use any of the Oranger Cleaner because that usually takes the paint off the door trim. if you cant find or get any cleaner for your door trim try water and the brush, and if that wont work a pass or 2 with mr clean wotn hurt.
