What Size Rocket Engine?

Hi: Recently purchased a 73-77 style Cutlass Coupe which is already a Pure Stock asphalt stock car. I was told by the seller it has a 350, it IS a Rocket-not a Chevy , but I know all the Olds engines look the same , and I don't know how to tell anywhere from a 260 to a 455. If anyone has a description, or where the #'s are and what they mean, I sure would appreciate the info. I didn't buy it from the guy who raced it, so I really have no clue to what motor is in it. Any help would be great. Thanks, Billy

Re: What Size Rocket Engine?

When You say 73-77' ... what year is the car ?

Need to be more specific to attempt to answer your questions.
Most of these had 350's though.

That's the point, it's just a race car shell of the style made in 73 til 77. It is not the original engine. I'm just wondering what size it is, and I don't know what to look for as far as #'s , or different markings or changes on the engines to tell if it's a 350 or maybe a 400 or 455. To me they all look the same, but I'm sure to an Olds expert there are things to look for, or some code #'s to tell what size and year and comp ratio, HP etc.

Re: What Size Rocket Engine?

What I remember was the Chevys being in full-sized Oldsmobiles like Delta 88's in the late 70's, like 77 -79 as an option along with 403 Olds and some 350 Olds. I don't remember them in the Cutlass but that doesn't mean they weren't in some of them. Billy

Re: What Size Rocket Engine?

Correct, I had a 77 Delta with a Chevy engine, big embarrassment for Olds when this came to light.
