how good is a ram

hey. mabey you guys can give me a few pointers. ive got a frontier right now and im looking to sell it for something with some balls . not a bad truck but not enough. im looking at getting a 1500 regular cab for a daily driver and weekend offroading. first what do the after market power adders look like. i used to have a firebird formula so i know about the options, im jus wondering what directions and prices i want to be looking at for this engine. next ill be putting some fairly big mudders on this and pushing(not abusing) it fairly hard occasionally. what are spme trouble spots. once again i know these are solid trucks but i want some feedback on what i can expect. any opinions or pointers will help. thanks.

Depends on how much your spending and what year range your looking at. I've had a 99 with the 5.9 and currently have a 03 with the 5.7. Both have plenty of balls...obviously the hemi has a little better get up and go.

I've got an '01 1500 quad cab with the 5.9. I must say for the gas it eats it is pretty much a whimp going up the highest mountain passes here in CO, and I also tow a race car and it doesn't like that much either. I've heard good things about the Hemi though, if you can get your hands on one I'd say go for it.

These are great trucks get an 03 or later and you wont have any trans problems. My 5.7 hemi has so much power it can be hard not to spin the raer wheels on the road, mybe that would be a bad thing for off roading. Plus driving an american truck just makes you feel better.

Re: how good is a ram

i have found a 2001 reg cab short bed sport. its got 48000 miles and i should be able to pick it up for 10500. do all the sport models have the 5.9 ( ive heard the 5.2 sucks)? i live in colorado so ill be taking it offroading and making trips up to the mountains to go boarding. will this have enough power to do the mountain passes ( i wont be towing anything) or is it just going to suck gas. and i know the 2003 + models have more power but i cant stand the looks.
