acceleration problem
I have a 2001 plymouth neon, I am having a problem with the acceleration. It started as just a little hesitation after taking off from a stop sign or stop light, now when you take off you can push the acceleration all the way to the floor and it is like there is now power. after a few seconds it kicks in and goes, you can feel a little hesitation while driving along now. can anyone please help me out. I was thinking that maybe it could be a blocked fuel filter, but this car does not have an external filter. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: acceleration problem
Check your transmission fluid level.

I have found out that i need to replace the catalytic converter. Does anyone know if i can use a universal one or how i can tell which one I need and how hard is it to replace. Any information would be greatly appreciated, as my daughter is driving me crazy to get her car fixed. Thanks.

Re: acceleration problem
you can weld in a universal one ( not hard if you have the skills and equipment) or you can get one that will bolt in from autozone or whatever. you can also remove it, replace it with pipe and unplug your downstream o2 sensor

ok i had the same prop with my 97 dodge neon.... here is what u do: 1. start your car..... 2. open ur hood.... 3. go to ur fuel injectors start with number one (1) passenger side, and either lift or unplug the connector till u hear the car idle down or changes the engine sound if this happens then number is good plug it back in.... then go on to number 2, 3, and 4..... 4. if there is no change in the idle or engine sound then what ever injector connector u just checked is ur problem... you have a clogged/ bad fuel injector.... all i did was remove the bad injector and cleaned it... i banged the dirt out of it
but it didnt hurt my injector so its all good and that solved my acceleration problem boo yah.... just be carefull when u remove ur injectors not to mess up the o-rings... they say to replace ur o-rings once u remove them but it hasnt hurt my neon......
