2000 Montana, key problem?
Hey everyone, I've searched the forum for a problem I'm having, but I haven't been able to find anything that addresses this very strange problem.
I have a 2000 Montana and when we use my wife's key, the engine will intermittently die, especially when at an idle. If you drive with one foot on the gas at all times to keep the RPMs up, it will jerk and the security light will flash, but it keeps on running. Using my key, the engine runs fine. Do the chips inside the key occasionally go bad? I've never heard of it happening before with any vehicle. |

Re: 2000 Montana, key problem?
Why don't you try RE-PROGRAMMING the key with the procedure outlined in the Sticky?
It is worth a try! I cannot see the chip failing in the key. (Worst case scenario, you can buy keys on ebay for $10USD.) Don't PAY THE DEALER 65! |

Re: 2000 Montana, key problem?
Well...its not the key. This got really weird. I reprogrammed the key last week, but my wife called me a few minutes after leaving for work today to say the van had quit again, so I grabbed my key and went to where she was. I started the van and it ran fine, so I had her follow me in my car. Its been raining here, so I turned on the winshield wipers and it began to misfire, in fact, I noticed a rythem to the misfire. Everytime the wipers started (they were on intermittent) the engine would miss. I shut the wipers off and the van ran fine with no problems. When it would miss, it would eventually die and the security icon in the message center would flash.
I've never seen anything like this before, so if anyone has a clue to where I should even begin to look, I'd greatly appreciate it. Chris |
