'03 Lincoln LS V6 Automatic Whats up fellas I got the P0430 engine code all plugs and coils have been changed along with intake and valve cover gaskets but im still getting the code. Ive bought all the O2 sensors just need to put them in. My questions are: How many O2 sensors are there? Where are they (as in 2 before and 2 after catalytic converter)? How many catalytic converters? Some muffler shop just told me 4????? I havent got under the car and wont be able to for a couple more days. Do I only need to worry about the passenger side? And according to this muffler shop how can I tell if its the 1st catalytic converter or 2nd on the passenger side?Thanks for any help yall can give me.

The oxygen sensors will be designated as B1S1, B1S2, B2S1, and B2S2. B1 or B2 designates the cylinder bank. S1 or S2 designates the sensor number, where sensor 1 is before the catalyst and sensor 2 is after the catalyst. Your car will have 4 O2 sensors.

If you're standing in front of the car with the hood up, bank 1 will be the bank of cylinders on your left. Bank 2 will be the bank on your right (driver's side in US).

Your car probably has pre-cats as well as catalytic converters, so it gives the appearance of having 4 catalytic converters.

Your code P0430 indicates the catalyst efficiency for bank 2 is below the threshhold, so focus on the plugs, wires, injectors, converters, and exhaust system on that side of the engine. Does it sound at all like there may be an exhaust leak?

Sorry shorod still trying to get use to using this. But I got the P0430 code you replied to. No it doesnt soulnd like theres a leak. But I went ahead and replaced both sensors on the "passenger side" that is bank 2 corresponding with that code I did do the right ones....right???. And seen the 2 cat's and the pre cat you were talking about. Now I just need to clear the engine light and pray that it took care of the problem if not im guessing its gonna be the catalytic converter that is the problem instead of the pre-cat. Is that safe to assume? My ?'s are is there a way to tell if the pre cat is bad? And how do I clear the engine light now that ive changed the o2 sensors. Any of your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanxs

Hey shorod the website for obd codes reads that P0430 is bank 2 passenger side and you had wrote me that bank 2 is driver side. Could they have misprinted? Cause I replaced both O2 sensors and cat on passenger side. And all plugs and coils and am still getting the P0430 code. Now its colder here in the mornings and the car is barely staying on and idling bad if it does stay on not to mention the brake pedal will be hard to push and the car wants to keep jerkin but only when its cold what could it be.

Well, from the days of my 2004 LS V8 I had printed a diagram of the cylinder layout. Before typing the above, I verified that cylinder 1 on the V8 is the front-most cylinder on the left side as I'm standing in front of the car with the hood up looking at the engine. That diagram was printed from the factory service manual. Also, I remember on my Taurus SHO that I hated when I had misfires on cylinders 1-4 (Bank 1) because that was the bank near the firewall (transversly mounted). On the SHO, the drive belt was on the passenger side. Rotate the engine on the SHO to get the belt to the front of the car like the longitudinal mounting of the LS and that would correspond to bank 1 being on the passenger - consistent.

I didn't explicitly pull up the diagram for the V6 LS though....
