96 sentra sputter/shake

hello, i have a 1996 nissan sentra gxe with a 1.6l engine.
what i have done so far: new starter, brake pad/shoes all around, brake rotors, new spark plug cap, rotor and wires, and new spark plugs. whenever come to a stop it does a sputter. i can feel it on the right side, but not in the brakes. it sputters and makes the car shake. i brought it to the local autozone, and they tested the codes, and it came as a cylinder misfire, and an error within the transmission sylenoid. we cleared the codes, and replaced the cap rotor and wires, thinking that would solve the problem, but the same code has came up, and it is still doing the same thing. i'm stumped as to what to do here.

Pull all of your spark plugs out and do a compression test on every cylinder.

Re: 96 sentra sputter/shake

is your misfire code just a p0300, or does it isolate down to an individual cylijder? Have you checked out your distributor? what type of ignition parts are you running? I have seen many misfire codes on those engines using aftermarket plugs and wires, even new ones. Nissan's can be very sensitive about their ignition components.

Re: 96 sentra sputter/shake

i changed the distributor cap rotor and wires on it as well. now i did not use the most expensive ones, i actually went the cheap way. but it was to my understanding that it really didn't matter that much.

Re: 96 sentra sputter/shake

well, i brought it to the local kennedy transmission for them to change the tourque converter solenoid, and they changed it. 600 bucks later, but they drove it and said that it was working just fine, well i get not even 2 miles away from the place and it starts doing the same thing, so i brought it to autozone and they ran the codes, p1550, and the p0300. so i dropped it back off, and they don't sound like they know what they are doing at all to be honest. they are trying to stick to the metal shavings in the transmission pan routiene. but everyone knows that there will be metal shavings in brand new cars as well, so the point is invalid. now they did not clean the valvebody inside, so that could have some problems, but i don't know so far.

Re: 96 sentra sputter/shake

well of course like every transmission shop they told me the transmission needs a rebuild. The torque converter is bad. hahahah. At anyrate I think they need to pull out the valve body, clean it, re-install and do a transmission flush. they keep saying the transmission has particles in it.

Here is what I am wondering. Does the brake electrical circuit connect to the transmission lock up circuit. In other words when you push the brake does the transmission come out of lock up and if the tail light socket is corroded will this lower the voltage so the transmission won't come out of lock up. I know a friend who had this happen on his minivan and of course the transmission shop said the tranny needed rebuilding and all it really needed was a new tail light socket and bulb.

I will probably have to check alldata for some wiring diagrams.

thanks.
