Fast cars, slow cars...and everyone in between

Upon reading the discussion of the Lincoln Ls vs RSX thread. It got me thinking. You guys were onto something, but didn't quite elaborate enough. I don't believe it is a matter of owning a slower car that makes racing more fun. I believe it all depends on the "company" of possible challengers around you and what they are capable of.

First off i think, there are ALOT more "slow" cars than there are "fast" cars. I quote these because power is a biased aspect and fast and slow have a different meaning to everyone. Again this is not to say owning a slow car is more fun, but since there are more slow cars around most races are fun and have that adrenaline rush simply because you don't know if you can win or not, that is what makes the excitement. To owners of faster cars, sure it may be fun to blow the doors off (time and time again) against slower vehicles, but at some point the novelty DOES wear off. You seek a challenge, if there is no one to challenge the adrenaline slowly fades and becomes almost a pessimistic view. Fast car owners need to be challenging other fast car owners to keep the spirit of the competition alive. Competition is the key driving factor here, if you have no one to compete against...things become rather dull.

If you watch the Simpsons, if anyone remembers when Homer joins the Stonecutters cult? After they find out he is the Chosen One, they seem to let him win at everything and at first he felt great, but after a time...he grew bored. A similar principle is at work here. Sometimes it sucks to be on top simply knowing there will be a great deal of time before a challenge will appear. This also has a lot to do with where you live.

This morning for example. I caught the attention of a newer Eclipse ( the I4 not the V6) we went from a 40mph roll up to about 80 and we were bumper to bumper the whole time. I hadn't had a race in a while, so it was exciting and for the fact that it was a draw. It doesn't get much better than that. I hope I run into him again soon for a rematch. The moral of the story? You guys with fast cars should leave the "slow" people alone!! Sorry for the rant.

Re: Fast cars, slow cars...and everyone in between

i'm glad you posted this

here's how i feel about it.

not to say that the vr4 was the fastest thing in the world, i'm pretty sure it was about a low 13 to high 12 second car. it was even fun when ricer's would try and race me. but it just doesnt happen anymore. i think ricer's are getting smarter and smarter(therefore not making them ricers) and only pic on people there own size/speed.
when i had a eagle talon, i had the most adrenaline racing i've ever had in my life.
in the vr4(though they are some of the most memorable races) all i had was
my kill on the Nsx, draw with the corvette, death by the viper, kill by the trans am and kill by the srt-4.
with the nsx bieng the most adrenaline rushing.
in my eagle talon, pretty much anything i raced was up to par with the feeling of the nsx race...because i'm in a town were most cars are 15 second cars(or atleast it was like that back then). another thing is in the vr4, the race is over far too fast.
from 70 to 130 the race is over in no time. but and at those speeds swerving through traffic is pretty stupid.
on the other hand, in my ls, i punch it and it takes a lot longer to get to 120mph and during the race its easier to pick and choose your lanes as your going. and there's more time to determine who's the faster car.

kobe bryant wouldnt be so happy playing basketball if his competitors were all some street kids that have no game. there's no fun in that and there's no adrenaline rush. he needs pro's to have fun and challenge him.

michael jordan actually retired the firs time, because the game was to easy for him. he had nothing to prove anymore

I enjoy driving the hell out of a slower car than driving a very fast car slow. When you have a fast car, you have to be at 100% and your always on the look out. It would be stupid to hit certain speeds and accelerate with so much momentum in most public roads.
