help w/ tire sizes and new wheels for 90GT
Hi Guys and gals. I'm new to this board and looking forward to learning a lot.
I have a fairly stock 1990 Mustang GT with the stock turbine wheels which are 15x7 I believe. It also has stock tire size (225/60-15) BFG Radial T/A's. My tires are shot and I'm looking for a new set of wheels and tires. I really like these black chrome wheels, check them out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AFS-7...spagenameZWDVW WHEEL SIZE AND SPECIFICATIONS: They are 4-lug (4 on 4 1/4). We have combined two sizes on this auction, 2 - 17" x 8" (+12mm with 4.95" backspacing) for the front, and 2 - 17x9 (+24mm with 5.95" backspacing) for the rear. We really like using the 17" x 8" on the front of the Fox body Mustang! It gives better handling and NO RUBBING problems! Now here are my questions. Should I stay away from "replica wheels"? Also, will these fit my stock 4 lug setup? Now for tires, please let me know what size to go with these wheels. I figure 225 to 245 for the front but I'm worried about rubbing a 245 on 17x8 since my 90GT has the smaller fenders than the 91-93 foxes. For the rear, how large can I go? 275/?/17?? I dont want to roll the wheel wells and I still have the stock suspension setup including quad shocks. Flipping them may give me some needed space. This car is a daily driver except in winter. My goal is the largest tires that will fit in the rear without major mods for some more traction. Something wider than stock in the front (if possible) that won't rub lock to lock as the mustang's turning circle is pretty small as it is. I also would like a set of tires on these 17" wheels that are not super low profile. I need a little bit of tire down their to protect my wheels from the millions of NYC potholes. Please advise and thanks in advance. |
