78 corolla cracked frame at steering box
i just baught a 78 corolla 2 door with the 3tc engine and the frame is cracked where the steering box is... i was told if i take off the steering box and have a piece of angle iron welded in there and then bolt the steering box back on that i should be fine for a long time... are there any other ways to fix that and if not will that hold.. i have a great welder so im not worried about his welds breaking.

Re: 78 corolla cracked frame at steering box
Hi.Sound like it might work.I forgot that older Toyota's had steering gear boxes. Is the frame just cracked or is it rotted? I had a 79 Corolla,It was a good car untill the subframe gave out undreneath the car(rotted out).I would drill the holes in the angle iron before I would weld it to the frame.I do not know how much room you have to work with,as I have not seen any Toyota's of that vintage on the road(live in the rust belt!!).Good luck..Diesel 1962
